A History lesson: The 1905 Russian Uprising

The Russian revolution of 1905 began in a non-violent manner. On February 23 of that year, a peaceful procession of around 120 thousand unarmed civilians led by father Georgy Gapon, a Russian Orthodox priest, approached the Tsar’s winter palace in an attempt to present a petition asking for help from the Tsar himself. The people were suffering terribly from dire poverty and poor working conditions. At that point, people still regarded the Tsar as their protector and accepted him as the autocratic ruler. They didn’t blame him for all of the problems in Russia, but his advisors and the members of the civil service.

However, the Tsar’s army misread the situation and opened fire on the crowd, killing and injuring hundreds of protestors. The massacre became known as "Bloody Sunday." This was perhaps the most important event that triggered the 1905 revolution and heralded a downward spiral of all the problems in Russia at the time. It led to the revolution of 1917 and overthrow of the Czarist regime.

This should be a lesson to the American oligarchy of today. As President John F. Kennedy said, "If peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable."

Tired of the left talking about resorting to violence lately. You are not justified in doing so because your side lost an election and you don't like how things are going. For all your Jan 6th whining, you are proposing worse and seem to think you are scaring people with the thinly veiled threats.

As with the election, you have no idea how wrong you are.

@BrandNewMan I very much hope violence will not happen here. The lesson of the 1905 revolution is if peaceful protest is forcibly suppressed violence will follow.

The First Article of the Bill of Rights guarantees "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Trump publicly stated critical coverage of him should be illegal. That is treason. citation:

@BrandNewMan For once I am on your side. Having the voting public more or less behind him this time. The American voters deserve a full 4 years of him. That will larn 'em.😷
@badminton Where are non-violent, law abiding protests being stopped? Columbia students and others have been damaging property, threatening Jewish students. Fire bombing and bombing cyber trucks, threatening Tesla owners with violence if they dont sell the vehicles? That is not protected peaceful protest. Its the same b.s. as the BLM riots where multiple police officers and citizens were attacked in addition to extensive private and govt property damage occurred. There is a clear difference. The latter is what is being threatened and you damn well know it.
