Those who don't pick Washington or Lincoln just have recency bias. If you asked "in your lifetime" then that would be a different question. Washington was a founding father, a general who fought the British for independence. Lincoln took a stand to the south and led us through slavery and the civil war. No matter how much the others have done, it's gonna be hard to top them. Without them, none of the others matter.
