12th of May. Another interesting date in British military history.

May 12 1780- British capture Charleston South Carolina during the American Revolutionary War against rebels, French, Spanish, Dutch, Mysorians and Uncle Tom Cobley and all.
May 12 1858 Battle of Sirsee Hope Grant defeats mutineers. Interesting man, Hope Grant; a musician of note, he battled his way through the Mutiny and won his war in China a couple of years later. He was another of those bloody Scotchmen.
May 12 1858 Battle of Jugdisoree; Lugard defeats Ummer Singh in another forgotten fight;
May 12 1943, all organised Axis resistance in Africa ceased, 248,000 prisoners taken. The campaign had started with the Italian invasion of Egypt in September 1940 and ended with Monty's advance from Alamein and British and US advance from the west to meet in Tunisia.

@Colormegone quite right. Forget carrying these unpleasant exploding shell thingys. As long as we can throw wet tea bags at the bad lads, the world will be a safer place, by jingo!

@MandyMitchell What??? You don’t use loose tea?
MandyMitchell · 80-89, F
@Colormegone Not in my tank, for goodness sake. These wet leaves get stuck in the firing mechanism when I pull the trigger.
