You have to be clear on what "left wing" Government's you're talking about. Was Nazi Germany left wing because it was a National Socialist party? No, because it was really a Fascist state. Was the Soviet Union really a left wing state or a totalitarian Dictatorship? Do you class China as a left wing state?

@Oldanglaisadverbs USSR wasn't a socialist Government. It may have described itself as such, but so did the Nazis. Both the USSR and the Chinese state are/ were dictatorships, as indeed was Cambodia. I don't think we've ever seen a truly Socialist state. A truly Socialist state would be fully democratic for a start.
