2nd Afghan War [I Love History]

The 72nd Highlanders at the battle of Peiwar Kotal, 1878? or maybe 1879. A Victorian artist's impression. That was General 'Bobs' Roberts fist major victory. He was one of the many, many Irishmen who made his home and name in the British army - and was one of Kipling's favourites.

@Ingwe Oh yes- the Indian Army was tremendous! The Guides won universal admiration for their bravery at the siege of the Kabul Residency in '79 and the Bengal cavalry, Sikhs and Gurkhas all added to their fame. I might be biased because my great uncle fought beside the Indians in Burma and praised them to the skies.
