Although the site is ancient, the building is recent. 19th century Victorian, I believe.

@Ksmile14 It's a bit out of place. The city grew around the castle.

@helensusanswift Which is the way most cities grew I imagine. Except most of the castles didn't survive and the cities did.

@Ksmile14 My pleasure - and I think you are right, with Edinburgh being a prime example in Scotland. Still a working castle though.
