The guardians of the North West Frontier, the Pashtun were and are amongst the fiercesy warriors in the world. The Sikhs met them at the edge of their Empire, the British got to know them well, as did the Russians, and later the western forces in Afghanistan. These lads are carrying Jezzails, the accurate weapons of the Frontier

@Elevatorpitches I think the distant ancestry of both was probably similar; somewhere on the Asian Steppes - and that is only a guess. I have no detailed knowledge of either.

@Elevatorpitches Yes...except horses only arrived in North America with the Spanish. The changes they led to in the lives of the Plains tribes was cataclysmic. But because this is when white people encountered them, it was assumed that this was their natural state, when in fact it was a relatively recent development.
@LeopoldBloom wasn't about the horses..

When I decided to select a Plains Indian pic I saw sev. dozen in a few seconds and only wanted one that reflected that proud fierce spirit... and the one I instantly found...had three figures again and different headdresses and garments but mostly the vigilance and alertness and pride and angles...felt reminiscent. So I put it up. Its down now, felt like removing it
