I grew up in the 60s. it was a kid's holiday - not a big deal - not a lot of parties - just go out and get your cavity/diabetes bag filled and get sick of candy after a couple of days.
Christmas was the big holiday - and there was more emphasis on Christ then.

Excessive amounts of ammonia in the atmosphere causing brain rot.

It was a kids night in the 60s.
There were not the adult parties like now.
I had two huge parties in 98 and 99
And it seemed then that it was competing with Christmas for commercial marketing.

Never been a fav holiday for me. I always thought getting in a costume was so lame. But, with that said, it's always been a big deal all around me. Some people get way too into it. 😒

But I wonder why Halloween specifically got this commercialized.

@starsslave: because it starts the Christmas spending. My dad tells me Hallowe'en used to be just a small thing in the UK with low jey parties now all the shops just push tat

@starsslave: when the adult parties started, that encouraged adult costume sales, then decorations, novelties. It must have started mid 80s and grew from there.
