I Love History

In 1899, English inventor David Misell invented the first flashlight. It had three D batteries placed in a tube that acted as a handle of the device. Batteries powered a small incandescent electric light bulb and a simple contact switch turned light on and off.

Who Invented Flashlight? - History of Flashlight

We don't realize how much it matters when we were born.

Prior to 1899, if you heard a noise in the night, you either pulled the covers over your head or you had to light a candle and go looking for what caused the noise, hoping whatever it was didn't have the lung capacity to blow out the candle.

There was also the danger of setting afire your voluminous sleepwear or being burned by the melting wax when you shook with fear.

Sure, you'll all brave and gutsy NOW. You've got your tactical flashlight.

Couldn't they just use the flashlight app on their phones? 🤔🤭
@TrunkZ I don't see why not. I guess they just couldn't see to turn it on. 😂😂
@TrunkZ At least a dozen times when I've told a story about car trouble or some other scary thing that happened in the dark ages before flashlight apps, somebody under 25 says, "Why didn't you just call somebody?"

Dang. Why didn't I think of that?

@Mamapolo2016 Lol, hard to believe the world actually functioned without cellphones and the internet. 😉😉
