Slow murder

We have birds, budgies, conures, love birds. They live in cages in our Kitchen and get a couple of times a day to fly around. As you can imagine, there is bird food all over the floor and feathers everywhere.
It also happens that the intake for the furnace is also in the Kitchen, and one of the bird cages sits right above it. We put filters into the intake area to keep the bad stuff out.

We had a guy come over to clean our furnace vents about 6 months ago, and he was nice enough, seemed pleasant, but there was something about him I didn't like and I couldn't put a finger on it. He brought up the subject of bird dust and how bad it can be to inhale etc., and we already knew that. He said he cleaned the intake filters.

Well we have been noticing a lot more dust around the house lately, and its not from forest fires yet, as those have not started here yet (coming soon). We get a lot of dust from that. It was time to clean the furnace filter again as its been a few months and I noticed everyone was coughing more lately.. colds, flu, dust.. could be anything.

I cleaned the filter and noticed there were tons of bird feathers on it, like way more than usual, so I went up to check the inbound filters and they were gone. wtf.

Did that guy remove them on purpose and then tell us about the bad things it will cause? He never mentioned about us replacing them. Would he throw them out and then forget that important detail?

Not going to be calling him back.

I have another theory though, my wife is a writer, and she reads a lot of crime novels.. you don't suppose.... nah..

I completely blocked off that intake vent (there is a second one outside the Kitchen). Should I tell her about it?
