More than 1,450 have been counted dead after Venezuela was hit by magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Tens of thousands are missing. The 72-hour window, known as the golden window, has passed. Many more bodies will be found. Rescue workers have reported halting operations due to frequent aftershocks and there is a shortage of machinery to save lives. Men are left only with shovels, pickaxes, and hands.
