Why do you believe you need big tech corporations and that they're bound to exist?

Probably because communal effort has paid off for us as species that doesn't have the biggest teeth or claws and can't outrace it's prey.
Huge corporations developed from the same principles as having large families to share the work and groups of hunters to hunt mammoths.
Of course, big corps can outcompete Mom and pops, and they're a parallel structure to governments, and you can certainly bring up issues like monopolies and political contributions where there are good reasons to regulate them.
As to why they exist, basically I think they mostly have a competitive advantage. And, imo, that includes "unfair advantages" which are kind of where society draws the line.
