‘DON COLOSSUS’ LOOKS FOR HOME: A 15-foot golden statue of the president is set to be unveiled at Trump’s golf complex in Doral, Fla., a shrine to him from a group of cryptocurrency investors.
A 7,000-pound pedestal made of concrete and stainless steel was installed last month on the grounds of the complex, and now the statue, known as “Don Colossus,” is soon to be added, The New York Times reported.
The group of investors reportedly paid $300,000 to have a sculptor create the statue as a tribute to Trump and for promotion of a memecoin, a type of cryptocurrency, called $PATRIOT. Pastor Mark Burns, one of the effort’s organizers, told other collaborators that Trump plans to attend the statue’s unveiling, messages reviewed by the Times reveal.
“It LOOKS FANTASTIC,” Trump wrote to Burns in December.
Trump has been a strong proponent of the cryptocurrency industry since his return to office after previously dismissing it as a “scam” during his first term. Former President Biden had a tense relationship with the industry during his presidency, with his administration bringing multiple cases against crypto companies.
But the industry has taken on newly elevated status under Trump 2.0, being welcomed by officials throughout the Trump administration and gaining support for regulatory wins from Republican leaders, along with some Democrats.
