“Our Adversaries Remain on Notice. America can Project our Will, Anywhere, Anytime.” Trump, Rubio, and Hegseth Held a Press Conference

Donald Trump confirmed that Nicolás Maduro was “on a ship” and would “ultimately” be taken to New York, where he is expected to face criminal charges.
According to Trump, Maduro had remained in power while waging a relentless campaign of violence, terror and subversion against the United States, threatening not only American citizens but the stability of the entire region. This, he said, was the rationale for the military operation carried out on Saturday. “Maduro will now never again be able to threaten an American citizen—or anyone from Venezuela,” he said.
Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump was flanked by key figures from the national security establishment: secretary of state Marco Rubio, CIA director John Ratcliffe, defence secretary Pete Hegseth, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, and homeland security adviser Stephen Miller.

Trump said the United States was reasserting its influence in the western hemisphere and establishing a new regional dominance harking back to the 19th-century Monroe Doctrine. “The Monroe Doctrine is a big deal—but we have gone far beyond it,” he said, adding that under a new national security strategy American supremacy in the western hemisphere would no longer be questioned.
The president also stressed that the “embargo on all Venezuelan oil” remains in force, and warned Venezuelan officials still in the country that they must comply with Washington’s demands. He said the “American armada” remains on standby, and that the United States is retaining all military options until the conditions set out are met in full and conclusively. “All political and military figures in Venezuela must understand that what happened to Maduro can happen to them as well,” Trump added.

Defence secretary Pete Hegseth, for his part, praised the actions of the American forces involved in the operation. “What we witnessed last night was sheer courage and resilience—the valor and glory of the American warrior,” he said. According to Hegseth, America’s adversaries must clearly understand that the United States is capable of imposing its will “anywhere and at any time."

Secretary of state Marco Rubio signaled that regime change in Venezuela had become an unavoidable course for the United States, while stressing that Maduro could have avoided detention had he agreed to relinquish power. “Nicolás Maduro had numerous opportunities to avoid this. He was offered many very, very, very generous deals, but he chose ... to play games,” Rubio said at a press conference on Saturday. Maduro, he added, could already be “living somewhere else, quite happily”, but instead “decided to play grown-up games."
