320 mass shootings in the US so far.

As of Sunday, the 271st day of 2025, there had been more than 320 mass shootings in the US, according to the non-partisan Gun Violence Archive.

Perennially high rates of mass shootings in the US have prompted many to call on federal lawmakers to implement more substantial gun control, but Congress has largely been unable or unwilling to heed those pleas.

I read that. Frightening.

Presumably because Congress is elected by a population that is predominantly wedded to firearms, it won't do anything because they won't get elected again. Basically, the country is getting what it asked for: more of the same.

Very tragic.
@FreddieUK The crazy thing is most voters want common-sense gun reform!

It's just that the NRA was very shrill & had money.

Well, America, or rather, the US is number one !!
It does take work to maintain that position.

Nobody wants to do anything so 🤷‍♂

Great news for the gun lobby. The more people murdered by gunmen means we have to have more guns so gunmen can protect people from being murdered by gunmen.

And yet the MAGA crowd will also avoid this post. ☺

@Zonuss Unfortunately, they block people who put up decent points which they can't argue with, so they probably haven't even seen this posting.

@Roundandroundwego Maybe not "like", more perhaps a matter of seeing it as somehow unfortunate but normal to settle arguments or grudges by violence, including murder.

I am sure the vast majority of Amercans would never dream of that, and by no means all of them own guns. Yet something must be wrong somehow for a supposedly "advanced", educated and democratic society to have more random murders than the rest of the world together, outside of internecine "civil" wars, political terrorism and drug-cartel control - then to use Party politics as an excuse.

Such killings do happen in other countries, but they are very rare.

Only the Americans can settle the USA's internal problems; but they won't in Congress alone, only by fundamental social attitudes changing.
@ArishMell they're not hoping to "settle" the gun deaths, they need them. Results matter! Guns, cars and poverty or THINKING! No thinking, chaos, pain, RAGE! And confused people. Hatred! Aggression. Yuppers! You NEED the guns to stop socialism,! Desperately.

@Roundandroundwego Well, I am not American so I can't think like them, but I don't see them believing they have guns to stop "socialism" whatever they imagine that is; merely to settle scores and grudges, or silence opposition.

Murdering church or school attendees, or shooting at shoppers or fellow-employees, has no "socialist / non-socialist" dimension. It's just murder, and often for no definitely-known reason because the murderer has committed suicide or been shot dead by the Police or some self-righteous vigilante at the scene.

They do use shallow party-political point-scoring to try to "explain" or "excuse" the crimes, or to avoid discussing the situation - we see it all the time on SW - but that goes nowhere.

Hatred, chaos, confusion, rage - oh, I certainly agree with you there.
