It made national news that an illegal immigrant caused a deadly accident on the highway.

And yes, he did.

My gripe with it is that we're blaming illegal immigration when we literally make traffic accidents and death inevitable by the way we design things as if it's the only way of living and functioning, then blame the people who have no choice but to use it.

You can argue that he had a choice in the form of staying wherever he came from. I'll point you to the countless legal citizens who also cause traffic deaths every day. I wonder why they didn't make it on Fox News.

I don’t see where his immigration status in any way influenced the accident.
@trollslayer I mean I admit that it probably did in this case. But it's more like a symptom than a core issue.

@SinlessOnslaught i don’t. Whether he is an immigrant or not does influence whether he is a good driver. All persons who want to drive trucks should meet the exact same standard to obtain a license. The problem here - is that standard rigorous enough, was the standard followed, or are their other trucking industry regulations to consider (too many hours, etc). A white american guy from ohio could have caused the same wreck.

@trollslayer When it comes to the standard, speaking English is a federal CDL requirement for operating commercial vehicles in the U.S., as drivers must be able to understand and respond to public inquiries, highway signs, and official requests. If we’re talking about the same case here, this driver was not English fluent. Regardless of everything else the wreck was caused because he tried to do a u-turn on a highway. I would imagine or at least hope that most rational people wouldn’t do that in a car much less a semi-truck for obvious reasons. So everything else aside this really does come down to common sense and the lack of it or maybe just lack of care. Someone like that should’ve never been allowed behind the wheel.

@Spectra Sounds like he should not have been given a CDL die to lack of skills and lack of English fluency

@trollslayer this is clearly putting California and it's policies on trial. They gave a person a commercial driver's licence who didn't have the necessary requirements. Was it an error that slipped through the cracks or was it a policy decision to assist an illegal. Either way 3 American citizens are dead and someone needs to be held accountable for putting him on the road
