Some years ago I wanted to test the safety of having a real Christmas tree. So after Christmas, instead of putting the old tree at the curb I instead took it to the back yard and put a match to it.
It didn't burn, it exploded. Within a second the entire tree burst into an intense fireball. Never bought a real tree for Christmas after that.
In my imagination, the drying underbrush lining the floors of our forest areas are like a million of that Christmas tree, waiting to explode. Once they do, there's not much anyone can do about it except run for safety.

@Heartlander There are over one million dead trees in Yosemite park. Look out if it ever catches fire.

It's sad that so much of this can be contributed to the Sierra Club activities.

Happens this time of year. Nothing new.
At one time indigenous people started fires to spur new growth.

Seems like in at least some cases, the fires are arson
Some lunatic sees the destruction on tv and thinks wow I'll start a fire . Too many people have lost their minds in the world
