Well the previous Pope was South American... so I don't think it's the USA, but the Americas! We're in charge now 🤪
Also, I think it's possible that they saw the biggest evil was coming from the USA, and they wanted a Pope whom could potentially attack that evil head on. As the Pope is a young man compared to the US President!

@sstronaut Yeah that's my view as well, elevating an American cardinal who has openly taken a stance against the administration is definitely a political maneuver that will likely get them influence in the country (more than the opposite direction). He can criticize Trump, and do it not only as the pope (with all the accompanying media coverage), but also and firstly as an U.S. citizen.
