@badminton Oh good lord, and rifle is a rifle, a pistol is a pistol. I get the feeling that
you think an AR, or Glock is somehow more dangerous than other firearms..
Every family in my neighborhood had unlocked guns and ammo, and they all kept them
in the closet by the front door same as we did. There was NEVER a problem. explain
that to me. WHY, with all those guns RIGHT THERE! we never even THOUGHT about
doing anything with them, WHY? Blaming guns is a COP OUT!

@NativePortlander1970 It must be those new fangled guns that load themselves, aim
themselves, and pull the trigger all by themselves.
themselves, and pull the trigger all by themselves.
@DogMan Must be
@badminton And if they don't they will find other objects to use as weapoms, as we see in other countries that have strongly restricted the possession and use of them, in Sydney, Australia, last April there were FIVE knife attacks in four days with multiple deaths. Blame the person, NOT the instrument.
@NativePortlander1970 That is the error of Flawed Comparison. There is a huge difference between an AR-15 and a knife. An AR-15 type weapon which uses large capacity detachable mags can mow down dozens of people from a 100 meters away. That is not possible with a knife.

@badminton A perp with an edged weapon can take out more people silently, from behind, and take out more victims before anyone knows what's going on.
@DogMan An AR-15, AK-47 or Glock semi-auto pistol IS much more dangerous than civilian sporting arms. Such weapons as the AR-15 or a Glock have a much higher rate of fire than a bolt-action hunting rifle or a revolver. Militaries use auto-loading weapons with large capacity mags. So do mass shooters. Such weapons allow the shooter to fire for a long time without having to reload. For that reason the AR-15 is the weapon of choice for school shooters to massacre children.
These Weapons of War do not belong in civilian hands without a permit, a deep background check and mandatory training.

@badminton And by the way, my background check for my armed security license was very deep and thorough.

@badminton You can get large capacity clips for all 9mm pistols, there is nothing
special about Glocks. And you can get 30 round plus magazines for rifles other than
AR's and AK's
So are you ok with the M1 Garand? it has an 8 round clip that auto ejects, so another
can be quickly loaded. It is also a bigger round than the AR, about the same as the AK.
So you really think large capacity firearms are what makes kids kill innocent people?

@DogMan I have three tactical knives, which would You prefer for what type of use to take out a sentry?
@DogMan People do kill with guns if they are available. Autoloading weapons with large capacity, detachable mags make mass shooters much deadlier.
And yes, I think M1 Garands should be regulated. My dad used to own a Belgian FN-49.30-06 semi-auto rifle. I used to shoot it at the range. With iron sights I could shoot a five-inch group at the 100 yard range from the bench. It had a 10-round fixed box magazine.

@RedBaron That's another myth. The imaginary black market. The large majority of deliberate shootings happen with legally purchased guns. Gun accidents too.
This is why we need strong federal gun liability laws which will hold gun owners responsible for reckless irresponsible behavior. A huge number of children are killed by loaded guns left unsecured by irresponsible adults.
With freedom comes responsibility. if you want the freedom to own guns you must accept the responsibility that goes with it.

@badminton How do you explain the last assassination attempt. He was an ex-con.
He was not supposed to have a gun, and the gun had the serial number removed.
How did that happen? There will NEVER be a lack of guns, many more households
had unlocked guns when I was a kid, and there were NEVER shootings.
What changed? Something changed in the mentality of our youths, Large capacity
firearms, do not turn people into killers.

@badminton Black markets are not imaginary. That’s your myth.
It’s Economics 101. When demand for a good or service - such as drugs, guns, or prostitution - is not met legally, black markets ALWAYS AND INEVITABLY arise to provide supply.
That’s exactly why Prohibition and marijuana laws never worked.
Calling black markets a myth is amazingly ignorant and naive.
