Look at history. Political assassins have usually tuned out to be lone gun men

Not hired killers or trained snipers. Just pathetic loonies who ducked the radar and got lucky.
Stop with the conspiracy theories, and blaming politicians and parties. They didn’t do it.

The Trump shooter appears to be the lone gunman type. And not a trained, professional sniper. He apparently used an AR-15-type rifle. Not the weapon a trained sniper would choose for a distance shot.

@badminton I've been told by people in the know, AR 15's are reasonably good out to 600 yards or so, your average shooter isn't able to fully take advantage of that. This kid took a shot from less than 200 yards. You're probably right about a trained sniper picking a different rifle, but a trained sniper wouldn't have been crawling across the top of a barn in broad daylight that close to the intended target.

On a slightly related note, roughly 20 years ago a man I knew was involved in an hours long "incident" with local law enforcement. One of the stories from people who were there is that he shot the hood ornaments off patrol cars in a parking lot a quarter mile away. Two cops were shot, a third hit with shrapnel, all minor injuries. No one was killed because he didn't intend to kill anyone. (older, ex-military guy who just "snapped")

@robb65 You could be right. But I still think a trained sniper would have chosen something like this:
