Israeli army finds bodies of 3 hostages in Gaza killed at Oct. 7 music festival

The Israeli military said Friday its troops in Gaza found the bodies of three Israeli hostages killed by Hamas during its Oct. 7 attack, including German-Israeli Shani Louk.

A photo of 22-year-old Louk’s twisted body in the back of a pickup truck ricocheted around the world and brought to light the scale of the militants’ attack on communities in southern Israel. The military identified the other two bodies as those of a 28-year-old woman, Amit Buskila, and a 56-year-old man, Itzhak Gelerenter.

All three were killed by Hamas while fleeing the Nova music festival, an outdoor dance party near the Gaza border, where militants killed hundreds of people, military spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said at a news conference.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the deaths “heartbreaking,” saying, “We will return all of our hostages, both the living and the dead.”

The military said the bodies were found overnight, without elaborating, and did not give immediate details on where they were located. Israel has been operating in the Gaza Strip’s southern city of Rafah, where it says it has intelligence that hostages are being held.

Israel says around 100 hostages are still captive in Gaza, along with the bodies of around 30 more. Israel’s war in Gaza since the attack has killed more than 35,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health officials.

Netanyahu has vowed to both eliminate Hamas and bring all the hostages back, but he’s made little progress. He faces pressure to resign, and the U.S. has threatened to scale back its support over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Israelis are divided into two main camps: those who want the government to put the war on hold and free the hostages, and others who think the hostages are an unfortunate price to pay for eradicating Hamas. On-and-off negotiations mediated by Qatar, the United States and Egypt have yielded little.

My thoughts

I haven’t seen the uncensored video of Shani Louk nor do I want to but from the description that’s given, what happened to her is so messed up. I’m glad her body was finally found along with the other 2 hostages. I hope many others are found soon even though I have a bad feeling a majority of them are no longer alive.

Tragic.

But also, no-one talks about the tens of thousands of Palestinian men, women, and children, whose bodies have been twisted and burned beyond recognition in the name of "self-defense".

Also, odd that people are focusing on this girl because she was young and beautiful.

This may sound callous, but too bad.

@SW-User Hamas, which started this war, uses its own people as human shields while the billionaire Hamas rulers hide out elsewhere in safety.

Excerpt: While their people languish in poverty and are treated as human shields, the leaders of Hamas live billionaire lifestyles.

The terror group’s three top leaders alone are worth a staggering total of $11 billion and enjoy a life of luxury in the sanctuary of the emirate of Qatar.

@graphite Too bad. I don't care what Hamas does anymore. Israel is committing genocide. You know it, I know it, many many countries around the world know it, and so does the ICJ.

Not that Netanyahu cares.

@SW-User Hamas is committing genocide. Thanks to Hamas utter terror, Israel has to defend itself and eliminate the deadly weapons being used against innocent Israelis. So what does Hamas do? Surround its weaponry with innocent civillians. The goal of Hamas is to turn Israel from a technologically advanced democracy, where all sorts of vital inventions are created, into another Middle East hellhole like Iran and Syria. Israel has offered the Palestinians a two-state solution 5 times - all rejected by the Palestinians.

Rejection number four.
In 2000, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak met at Camp David, with Palestinian Liberation Organization Chairman Nasser Arafat, to conclude a new two-state plan. Barak offered Arafat a Palestinian state in all of Gaza, and 94% of the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital. But the Palestinian leader rejected the offer.
[b]In the words of U.S. President Bill Clinton, “Arafat was here 14 days and said no to everything.”
Instead, the Palestinians launched a bloody wave of suicide bombings that killed over 1,000 Israelis and maimed thousands more, on buses, in wedding halls, and in pizza parlors.

@SW-User I don’t think it is “official Israel policy”, but definitely a significant chunk of Israeli politicians and citizenry either wants this or is indifferent if it happens. The excuses and finger pointing the IDF keeps making simply floor me.

@trollslayerThe person ultimately responsible is Itmar Ben-Gvir. He wants the extermination of the Gazans, and he is propping up the Likud party. Netanyahu needs to please him, or the government falls apart.

Wdym? There has been, for months. In fact, there has been plenty of talk about women and children who died more than there has been talk about the men.

Also, odd that people are focusing on this girl because she was young and beautiful.

That’s not the reason. I focus on her because of how her body was mistreated in the back of that pickup truck. Spat at by a bunch of people young and old who viewed her death as a celebration. All she was doing was attending a music festival in another country.

You and your family is safe from possibility of what happened on oct 7, so it’s easy to think and write within comfort zone.
trollslayer · 46-50, M
@Jenny1234 not entirely true. This conflict has been going on long before there was a “Hamas”.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@trollslayer there is a war right now only because of what Hamas did on October 7 there’s no other reason for this war that is currently happening. So do not bring into this what happened before October 7

@Jenny1234 You don't solve any problems being blind to history.

Are you SERIOUS???
trollslayer · 46-50, M
@Jenny1234 Think of it this way. A sociopath commits a mass murder. The sociopath goes to trial, and is 100% responsible for pulling the trigger, 100% guilty of the crime. This is undisputed. But what also is undisputed is that people are not born sociopaths, and they are a product of their childhood. So, if there was no sociopath in the first place, the mass murder would not have happened. Now, can you place blame on the parenting? Michigan just did. The point here is that unless you change the underlying conditions in society, you will get new sociopaths and new mass murder. The choice is to only focus on the current crime, or examine deeper in hopes of preventing future crimes.

Ignoring what happened before Oct 7th is a sure-fire way to ensure terrorists attack Israel again. If you want to address this problem, you need to look at the conditions that lead up to Hamas existing in the first place, and that means going back a few decades.

Hamas’ goal is the genocide of Jews worldwide. Sure there were prior conflicts centered around land control in Israel, Palestine, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. HOWEVER , THE EVENTS OF OCT 7 put antisemitism into a massacre on par with the Holocaust. Advocating for a cease-fire would enable Hamas to maintain power over the Gaza Strip. If you support Palestine, you support terrorists
trollslayer · 46-50, M
@Jenny1234 Really on par with the Holocaust? What plan do you advocate doing going forward then, if supporting Palestine is antisemitism? What then happens to those people?
SW-User
@Jenny1234 You do realise that Palestine is not just Gaza. It's also the West Bank (although Israel is doing its best to take over there, too). If you support Hamas, you support terror. If you support Palestine, you are supporting a people's right to live in freedom.
