The MSM is failing, business is down, layoffs are systemic.

Will they acknowledge the reasons? Loss of trust? Promoting Deep State propaganda? Writing for a very small, but vocal and annoying left wing audience at the expense of all others?

Looking at this article...nope. No lessons learned, its a consequence of the times.

Meanwhile, independent news thrives...Substack and Rumble have a vast and varied ecosystem of journalist of ALL persuasions, not just the liberal left wing....

NEW YORK (AP) — On Friday, the National Press Club is offering solace — and a free meal — by giving recently laid-off journalists tacos in recognition of a brutal stretch that seems to offer bad news daily for an already struggling industry.

For anyone who works in the news media, the list is intimidating — and unremitting.

The news website The Messenger folded on Wednesday after being in operation since only last May, abruptly putting some 300 journalists out of work. The Los Angeles Times laid off more than 100 journalists in recent weeks, Business Insider and Time magazine announced staff cuts, Sports Illustrated is struggling to survive, the Washington Post is completing buyouts to more than 200 staffers. The Post reported Thursday that The Wall Street Journal was laying off roughly 20 people in its Washington bureau; there was no immediate comment from a Journal representative. Pitchfork announced it was no longer a freestanding music site, after digital publications BuzzFeed News and Jezebel disappeared last year.

Has a lot more to do with the Internet than them either being Right or Left leaning politically, print media like news papers and magazines will eventually almost disappear same as Cable will be replaced by streaming services. The ease of availability has changed many things. Millennials want nothing to do with paper based media and it will die off when most of us do. Right, like Left MSM are all going to suffer the same fate eventually, only if they change the format in which they deliver their news will they survive...

@spjennifer I'm sorry but I don't agree. People want news and journalism, they don't want to be told what to think and believe and the MSM has been doing that in earnest for many years now.

Again, there is a robust and interesting news ecosystem on independent sites now, including Substack and Rumble.

People don't want to hear Pfizer's marketing material spewed to them as factual news. These failures and loss of business are deserved and I think once these periodicals are done, we should salt the proverbial earth so they don't come back.

Good riddance.

@SumKindaMunster 5 years ago there were about 25 people in our condo still getting the local newspaper delivered, almost every 2nd door had a paper in front of it every morning, now there are maybe 3 who still do. I have no idea of their politics, nor do I care, but that fact has little to do with politics or them deserting MSM because of their political leanings.
Many of the people in our condo are older women and I don't think there are many grannies getting their news from either Rumble or Substack, hell they have no idea what those mean even. A lot of them subscribe to the same old local newspaper but get it online rather than in print media, including all of the advertising...

@spjennifer That's a nice anecdote. I'd just like to point out that its not just newspapers declining here, its the digital versions as well. Sports Illustrated, Buzz Feed and National Geographic are also not newspapers.

All are in free fall. I'm well aware of your political beliefs and am assuming you are in denial.

It's an election year...and these places are laying off journalists??? Not good, likely to continue to get worse.

@SumKindaMunster Wonder how many "Journalists" Fox laid off after having to pay $800M in damages awarded from the lawsuit last year? Denial much?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@spjennifer Fox news is part of the MSM. Last I checked, they were doing fine. If you have data showing otherwise, I'd like to see it.

I'm sorry my rebuttal triggered you as it did, but its not like you haven't been a snide, childish dick to me in the past, so I can't say I feel bad about it.

@SumKindaMunster As usual, moving the goal posts, I guess it only counts if it's the Left leaning MSM, any drops in the Right like Faux news don't count, because they are all honest. How about losing half of their viewers when Clucker Carlscum was dumped? Not like you haven't been a dick with me too, tit for tat 😵‍💫
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@spjennifer Please explain to me how I moved the goalposts.

I'm not disputing your comments about Fox news, I'm saying that's not what I have seen, their ratings are stronger than ever. So feel free to provide that data about them losing half their viewers.

I get tired of having to say this and it getting ignored: I DON'T WATCH FOX NEWS

@LeopoldBloom I'm deleting this comment. It's not what I said. I'm not responding to strawman remarks on here.

@SumKindaMunster Any facts I'd provide you'd declare as fake news from Left leaning MSM so what's the point? Facts are facts though, Faux News has lost almost half of its viewership since they dumped Clucker and most of those viewers have moved over to NewsMax so they get their daily feed of Right wing 💩. No, you watch Rumble and Substack now, you've told us that 😵‍💫
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@spjennifer The point is you'd get to prove me wrong. Where did I move the goalposts? What is your source for Fox News losing "almost half" its viewership?
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@SumKindaMunster I don't need to "prove you wrong". the facts don't lie, although Jesse Twatters seems to enjoy following up on Clucker's duplicity quite handily, he doesn't have numbers equal to Clucker by a long shot.
