So a tory party doner who also donated money to the leave campaign for brexit is now using EU laws to sue camilot the UK national lottery company

Shows it was purely down to avoiding paying taxes

Camelot is not British, for a start. Running the National Lottery was never UK owned. It was given away abroad right at the start, to the "Camelot" company, owned by a Canadian teachers' union.

That is no longer the operator.

Since 2024 the Lottery has been run by Allwyn Entertainment Ltd, a branch of the Allwyn Group. That is described as "multinational" by Wikipedia, and by itself as a "global" lottery operator. Both adjectives usually means American so if that is the case here, good luck trying to make them pay all due taxes in other countries.

I could not find the Group's real nationality, and its own web-site does not state it; but Allwyn Entertainments Ltd. is registered to an address in Watford, Herts.

It has always been supervised by the Gambling Commission, to ensure fair gaming. As far as possible. It operates legally but raising the draw from 6-in-49 to 6-in-50 immediately decreased the chance of winning the jackpot by 50 times.

Everything about them is vile and has been for a long time. No surprise. The only surprise I'd get from anything Tory related is if they actually did something to benefit the country and not themselves. Yet people will still defend them and vote for them because..reasons 🤷🏻

@milkymum1 I'm not surprised Rory Stewart seems happier now he's not a politician any more! I've read his book (well, nearly finished it at any rate) and it's quite revelatory about how a lot of them don't really know what they're doing!

@milkymum1 A recent reflection for me is some 15 years ago there was a "Hope not hate" campaign in the UK when there was a rise in support for the BNP. The language coming out of Government right now is pretty much the same and shows how far right the tories in general have moved.

@Pherick It only seemed that way because the then-HM Gov't apparently did nothing to publicize the huge COSTS to the UK if the country were to leave the EU.

I think that they thought the Brexit people were like Luddites and Flat-Earthers a minority of loud gadflies, which reason would simply brush aside.
