McCarthy has put his Speakership in danger by trying to use the debt limit as a bargaining chip. The radical right won’t back this deal which will force him to appear to be working with the moderate lefts of the Democratic House. That will weaken his standing even more and may well lead to his removal.
What’s more, this whole affair has put him in jeopardy with retirees, veterans, and those on Medicare—and these groups vote!
