Snapchat tried to make a safe AI. It chats with me about booze and sex

When Chatbots where in the hands of scientists they worked fine because scientists generally behave themselves. Give the worst of humanity access to it where even conspiracy laden lunatics can feed into its machine learning and this is what you get. In computer terminology its called garbage in garbage out. So yes we know why it does this. Only problem is no one wants to come out and say that a majority of humans are gutter trash.

@canusernamebemyusername worse than that, yet it is apart of the problem.
Current AI wants the subjects to be descriptive and literal. I gave the ChatGPT bot some prose that I wrote and asked it how I can improve it.
The prose was esoteric and purposely vague. Yet it suggested to be more concrete and descriptive.
When I mentioned that was purposely done it still had problems understanding. Because it gave more suggestions on being concretely descriptive.
Certain concepts just are not understandable to it. So how can it make suggestions with that type of lack of understanding.
It just not ready quite yet for public use. Often I read and understand things solely by the context. The overall concepts.
And that is how many write as well.
Also think of acronyms that are very commonly used now days. The chatGPT bot admits it can not look things up on the internet.
So if a new acronym comes around, how can it understand it, if it does not look at the whole context.

This seems to be a running theme for pretty much all technology.
Technology is being introduced where it's not really ready to be introduced.
Just like when Siri or Alexa was introduced too soon. Or self driving vehicles like with Tesla.
Personally I believe it needs to be in the beta and alpha phases before it becomes commonly available.
