Teacher shot by 6 year old is taking school and district to court

She says they ignored her repeated warnings that the 6 year old had a gun.

6 year olds parents claim the gun was “secure” at home in a locked box.

Guns kill people.

The parents and school should be charged for neglect. This is about using the law to strengthen accountability. Justice is not just about fixing what happened - it's about fixing the systems and failed responsibilities that contributed.

The six year old child should not be charged. People who think so need to perhaps move on from the dark ages or perhaps explain their technical definition of criminal responsibility as it relates to ages and maturity of children and how they came to this conclusion and why this outweighs contemporary research on children's brain development in relationship to comprehending consequences and severity of their actions.

@Abstraction
The six year old child should not be charged.
What's the minimum age of criminal responsibility in the US? In most European countries, it's around 13.

@helenS 'In the United States, the minimum age is set at just 6 years (in North Carolina) but most states have set no minimum age at all.' https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/social-sciences/age-of-criminal-responsibility (I know other states have it much higher, such as California.)
USA and Somalia the only two countries in the world that haven't signed the Convention on the Rights of the Child. If gives an indication of the level of development in the US on the issues of children. On a par with Somalia. Why?
US politics is unfortunately too shrill to deal with rational thought and science-based policy. People think any ignorant opinion they hold the equivalent to that of informed professionals. ("Rights! You gotta teach 'em responsibilities!!" Whereas rights are about the responsibilities of those who care for children.) My statements here are not a negative reflection on the very many fine, intelligent people who live in the US.

@Abstraction Thank you 🌷
I didn't know that – in fact I couldn't imagine. 😕
The parents should be charged. The child is their responsibility. @Abstraction

@Spoiledbrat Agree, that's what I said in very my opening statement. And since the school had been warned the child had a gun... they demonstrated neglect.
