Teacher shot by 6 year old is taking school and district to court

She says they ignored her repeated warnings that the 6 year old had a gun.

6 year olds parents claim the gun was “secure” at home in a locked box.

Guns kill people.

Good for her. A shame that it’s necessary, but maybe, if school districts and gun-owning parents start getting sued, maybe those who aren’t taking this seriously will start. It’s ridiculous that the child having access to a gun was already known to the school. He shouldn’t have been allowed back in class.

@bijouxbroussard If millions of people have guns at home, there will always be some who are careless. Until the horror has happened.
@helenS My mind is blown that a teacher tells her employer "repeatedly" that a first grader has a gun, and the child still gets a chance to shoot her. That child shouldn’t have been allowed back in the classroom.
@helenS Yeah, and the horror keeps happening. And it happens with high frequency in this nation only. And nothing here changes.

To a right winger, the right to bear arms is sacred. The lives of citizens are not.

@bijouxbroussard Of course the child shouldn’t have been allowed back in the classroom, but things go wrong. Always. No administration is perfect. Usually that's just one of those things, not worth mentioning, but when there are hundreds of millions of privately owned guns in a country, anything that goes wrong will result in a horrible catastrophe for everyone, the teacher, the child, the school's administration, and the child's family. Imagine you're the child's mother 😢

@ElwoodBlues

I think this is the scenario they’re emvioning:

I can’t. I don’t keep a gun in my home. And I can’t imagine not going through everything a six year old owned if a teacher told me my child had been bringing a gun to class. Not to mention dragging the kid to get some kind of counseling.
