Holmes Gets 11+ Years For Fraud

Elizabeth Holmes was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison on Friday following her conviction in January for defrauding investors while running the failed blood testing startup Theranos.

Judge Edward Davila imposed a sentence of 11 years and three months in prison, with another three years of supervision after Holmes is released. The sentence also includes a fine of $400, or $100 for each count of fraud. Restitution will be set at a later date. Holmes was ordered to turn herself into custody on April 27, 2023. She is expected to appeal her conviction.

Holmes, who was found guilty in January on four charges of defrauding investors, faced up to 20 years in prison as well as a fine of $250,000 plus restitution for each count.

Not long enough from where I'm standing. She personally bilked people and companies out of billions of dollars. 11 years means she could get out in a bit over five. The same penalty has having an ounce of weed in Florida.
Wonder how much her pregnancy played in to that? This woman is a con artist who was lying about something that directly impacted people's health. As long as white collar criminals keep getting a slap on the wrist, or manipulate the law so they fail up, there will never be equality under the law in this country.

@Ynotisay People died, due to test results she knew were faulty.

@Northwest There you go. And that didn't matter to her. Five years inside, in a federal and not a state prison, doesn't come close to paying for the harm she did.
Northwest · M
@Ynotisay she will end in a minimum security facility, if she ends up serving time at all.

Glad that story comes to an end.
She sold something she didn’t have. I also blame scientists who kept reassuring her the discovery was legit and could be finalized in a near future.

@eMortal Hold that thought. She was not taken into custody and was ordered to report on April 23, 2023 to begin serving her sentence. In the meanwhile, she will appeal.
@Northwest I heard about that. Must be nice to be out and free after having already been convicted. How many people are incarcerated while waiting to even be tried ?

@bijouxbroussard She’s white, from Palo Alto, and a Stanford dropout. But I’m sure the SW eagle hawks will be slashing their wrists over this, just as they do when a kid from East Palo Alto gets released, as they await trial.

It runs in the family

She's a looney tune, which isn't a crime, but bilking people out of money, of course, is.
That whole situation was a drag. It sounded like it would’ve been a great product, had it actually existed. 🙁

I feel the same about Star Trek Transporters.
@Northwest Same.
