What is the first news story you remember being broadcast on television (as a child)?

Mine was on a television like this, in black and white and it was of the assassination of JFK.

The first memory of the news was the Cuban missle crisis.

@SweetMae I don't remember it on the TV, but my dad, a CW4 in the CA National Guard, was activated and moved to Ft Lewis, WA, so the family went with him and I remember the the whole thing.

@Ontheroad Wow! That must have been scary for you. My Dad was a WWII vet. He wasn't happy about that.

@SweetMae My dad was a WWII vet as well, and actually, being so young I was virtually oblivious to what it all ment. The move was more of an adventure than anything. There for almost a year and back home.
@SweetMae think it might have been the Challenger explosion. my dad talks about the missile crisis, the Kennedy shooting, MLK, the Viet Nam war

@Ontheroad Glad you were too young to be afraid.

@Ontheroad Ft. Lewis must have been really rural back then. It's now the Joint base Lewis-McChord base.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Northwest McChord was known as McChord Field back then.
Northwest · M
@SweetMae Ft Lewis was home to one of the US Army Ranger Garrisons, and McChord was an Air force field.

In 2010, they merged due to budget/personnel alignment. The area is really beautiful. The state/US just finished a major upgrade of the road system, that took something like 12 years to complete.

Urban sprawl :-) I'm a California transplant, but been the area long enough to remember when they were two separate bases. :-)

@SweetMae I was afraid because I had no that we could all be killed so easy .
Do you remember the daisy commercial?
It only played once
SweetMae · 70-79, F
