Harry and Megan... What say you?

Mostly wondering about what the folks in the UK think of Harry and Megan and their trials and tribulations with the Royal family, and moving permanently to the U.S. Tonight I heard Harry making a comment about us having rights stripped away - likely a discreet comment about SCOTUS and wonder if he is going to dip his toes into our politics, what the UK folks think of them etc.

When the news of Harry and Megan broke, I literally cheered. Not because of them per se but what their union represented for the country and the Royal Family in general. Truth be told, I did have a soft spot for both William and Harry. And, in many respects still do.

I watched the wedding on TV and loved every second of it.

When the tabloids and asswhipes like Piers Morgan got stuck in. All of it pissed me off no end.

However, when Harry and Megan started coming out with what was to me, patent BS, my respect and appreciation for them went out the window. It was totally destroyed by the nonsensical Oprah "interview".

As to Harry's reported comments about America and the direction that a certain political party has taken, many of us in the UK feel the same way. We've always looked at America as our greatest ally and have repeatedly stood shoulder to shoulder with your armed forces. Now, we no longer recognise the nation that we were proud to say that we had a "special relationship" with.

@room101 Thanks so much for all of that and especially the part of how many are thinking of our (the US and British) relationship has taken such a hit. I'm a combat veteran and career solider, and have always thought there has been no better ally we could have... both militarily and otherwise.

@Ontheroad I've got a lot of friends and acquaintances who are either still serving or, ex British military. Honestly, their connection with their American brothers is something to behold.

Another very close friend of mine is a biologist and spent a number of years (in the early 90's) living in the USA. A group of us are all meeting up in Greece in October.

That relationship with the USA is indeed special. It breaks my heart to see the way it has been compromised in recent years.
