I believe that the desire for power often gives us...selective vision, hearing, memory.
For me, I think this is another place where the reciprocity of the Golden Rule can be used:
If you are a partisan for person 'P', group 'G', etc., in a given situation...
would you feel the SAME if all the partisans were INVERTED?
For Trump, Republicans, etc., if you are FOR him...
what would think if ALL the facts were the SAME, EXCEPT that the things being said about Trump were being said of, say, Obama or Biden, and by Democrats, not Republicans, etc.?
If a person would be mad and call for imprisoning "that dirty Democrat"...then why would that person NOT want the same for Trump?
And I think about this for me, a person always opposed to Trump, but who used to vote for some Republicans, because it's only fair to try to think about it another way.
Either way, I'd be disappointed, appalled, very concerned, and disgusted. But Trump's very open scoffing of reality is disturbing behavior in a President (lots of behaviors which are ok for guys drunk in a bar or just bull-shitting in a diner over coffee are NOT acceptable in the leader of a country).
I am saddened that ANY President would EVER do such a thing.

@Carazaa Yes. It is sad that we apparently have to have an amendment saying that public servants have a duty to truth, and that deliberate lies with regard to the job constitute

• a high crime for anyone in the executive or legislative branches, or any non-judge in the judicial branch.
Conviction disqualifies the person for
• having any other position--paid, volunteer, appointed, whatever--in the Federal government;
• voting or otherwise participating in Federal elections, including donating time, money, etc.;
• owning any guns;
• the right to Federal unemployment benefits;
FURTHER,
• the person is considered a traitor and subject to any judgments against traitors;
• the person has to repay any earnings and the value of any benefits, with interest;
• the person forfeits any further benefits (including extension via, e.g., COBRA), including any retirement benefits;
• the person is put in a national registry of traitors, with details of the reasons.
