I think they were afraid of getting shot by a semi automatic gun that leaves a face unrecognizable and tears caverns in people.
@JohnRing First they said the School Officer exchanged fire with the kid outside. Then that never happened and finally more than one officer exchanged fire outside. I think there's the possibility a stray round hit a child and they are holding out, changing the story on the fly, to cover that up.

@Pitchblue the ar15 uses a .223 inch diameter projectile that is not exactly going to “tare caverns” in the human body. My question is how many of those poor kids bled to death because of the lack of response from law enforcement? The military used the 5.56x45 because of its ability to wound. Not kill. Now the military uses or is transitioning to a 6.8mm projectile because of its effective force. The fact that it was mentioned in the thread it leaves faces unrecognizable is telling me that this guy was shooting these kids in the back of the head or ensuring that they were dead with head shots well a 9mm or .40 s&w leaving the face will do the same forget what a 12 ga can do! There’s nothing left of the human skull after that. Unless it wasn’t an ar15.
