don't they have some kind of weird power production and aren't on the grid?

@Pretzel They bailed out of a Federal grid because they didn't want Federal interference. In cases like this a Federal grid would allow Texas to borrow power from a nearby State. On Feb 2021 it was so cold their grid couldn't keep up and people died. "Cancun Cruz" Then because the power is shared the citizens that had no power paid a share of the Corporations that did. Some people got bills that were hundreds of dollars for No Power.

@Pitchblue I heard some people were getting freakishly high power bills.
I'm not a fan of big government - but when you deal in a commodity that literally brings life and death - I see the need for government oversight. In this case it looks like they have received more than they bargained for.
One of the few reasons I'm glad I'm in Florida :)
