the tsar bomb has like 20 mile radius that just ground zero
Carissimi · F
Is that the largest one?@babieseatcrap
babieseatcrap · 41-45, M
@Carissimi that is known to the public I am sure someone made a bigger one for no good reason

TexChik · F
Mutually assure destruction is what he will get. With all the warheads on missiles in our submarines , not to mention the missiles on our ships and then nuclear bombs dropped from B1s and then our land based ICBMs ...He is just rattling his saber.
TexChik · F
@Baremine Maybe he will throw tampons at them 🤷‍♀️
@TexChik Putin is smart enough to realize that no side can win a nuclear war.
TexChik · F
@thedarkside Of course he knows that. I suspect the media has embellished a bit for ratings
Nagasaki and Hiroshima used tiny (by modern standards) weapons, they had ground zeros of about a mile in radius and big effects out to about 25 miles.
Carissimi · F
So what’s the expected radius today? Do you think it’s double? @stound
@Carissimi 10X the radius is a reasonable guess.

The Nagasaki & Hiroshima bombs were in the 15 to 25 kiloton range (blast equivalant to 15,000 to 25,000 tons of TNT). These days ICBMs carry multi megaton warheads, so at least 100X the blast power. The intensity of a shockwave should roll of with the inverse square of distance, so 100X the blast means 10X the radius.

For more details, check out this "blast simulator" and type in 1500 kilotons or 3000 kilotons. Airburst does more damage, so focus on those results.

Not to mention the size of the warhead. There are a lot of variables. Personally I think Putin would be a fool to detonate one so close to home. But the Bible talks about a third of the world being destroyed by what could quite possibly be a nuclear blast. Depends on how crazy Putin gets.
@Baremine I'd be more concerned about the US than Putin but that's me
Baremine · 70-79, C
@Tinkles Joe doesn't know the code to launch.

News commentators. I have a hard time believing he’s going to end the world over this war.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@NoGamesTolerated Agreed. Great opportunity to bolster ratings. Expect heated rhetoric
Carissimi · F
Unless he’s lost his mind. I just heard that he, or some other official said they have 500 nukes that will destroy America and NATO. I’m going to get a bug out bag ready. It may, or may not be needed, but who knows. 🤷‍♀️ @carpediem
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Carissimi Good point. Apparently his speeches are becoming irrational. But could that be media types spinning news? So who knows what to believe? Maybe I'll join you.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Who knows who will be targeted? If the target is next door Russia will no doubt catch some of the fallout, but do you think Putin cares if he also kills a few hundred thousand Russians?

I just saw that Turkey is providing more of their sophisticated TB2 armed drones to Ukraine. They have a range of 150 KM and an endurance of 25 hours. All the defensive weapons that NATO is providing is great for an enemy at the doorsteps, but better to deal with Russian that are hell bent on killing a few miles before they reach the doorsteps.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
It depends on so many weather factors and where the strike is plus what type of missile.
Carissimi · F
I suppose you need to get as far away from the epicenter as possible, and major cities and military installations. @ravenwind43
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Carissimi if you aren't in the blast zone or general area from that then it comes down to wind patterns and how distilled the radiation is over the water. You could have pockets of highly radiated areas and then largely unaffected areas.
I heard 3 minutes til…
