Does that mean all the bad guys are good guys, and all the good guys are bad guys? Was Hitler a victim of bad press?
NorthernBear · 51-55, M
@YouCanCallMeDan Hitler got where he was in no small part because of the support he got from the Hearst family and others in American journalism. Among other things, they helped him sell the notion that Jews were a real threat to people and needed to be dealt with.

Why would the media want people to think Jews are a threat? Don’t the Jews own the media?
NorthernBear · 51-55, M
@YouCanCallMeDan Saying that today is a gross exaggeration at least. Back in 1918 it was the opposite of the truth. I know a little bit about Hearst's bias and the reasons behind it, but I really don't know why he supported the NAZI's. I use it as an example only because you mentioned Hitler.

Hitler was xenophobic and a bigot on matters of both religion and ethnicity. He blamed foreigners and Jews for everything that was wrong in Germany. Well, everything he didn't blame on his predecessor. He was a loud mouth jerk who seemed to want to antagonize other world leaders, and attacked the very media that helped him rise to power. If you see anybody in modern politics who matches that description, watch out.

Who do you trust instead?

@helenS I don't really trust much of anybody. You can get a good idea of the truth by balancing the biased American media with other sources, such as NPR, Al Jazeera, Morocco World News, The BBC, Der Spiegel International, The Institute for War and Peace Reporting, and the International Crisis Group, among others.
