Bracing for Winter

just saw an article in the paper predicting heating oil will be 46% higher here this year. nothing on natural gas prices yet. We're going to need bigger blankets

Europe will be cold. No Russian gas means we'll buy from other sources at an elevated price, so your supplier will basically tell you "why should I sell you at the same price we negotiated last year, when desperate overseas customers will pay me 2x as much?».

You're only safe if your energy is produced by local, non transferrable sources (hydroelectric, solar, wind, nuclear); if you rely on oil or methane for heating yourself definitely buy thicker blankets

Few countries have that luxury, but rely on a mixture of electricity generated from fossil fuels as well as hydro, wind. etc power, the price of that electricity will rise too; and in many countries most homes and businesses rely on gas or oil, not electricity, for heating.
