Few tricks that can make huge difference if you are trying to stay warm during an outage in the cold winter, without house heating system🔥
if anyone has any suggestions please add up to it.
You want to pick the smallest room in the house that has direct access to the bathroom and smaller windows because glass isn't good for cold resistance
You need to get all the foods that you can munch on long term and keep that in that room. Activity does warm up your body but sudden change in temperature is not that good for your body and will most certainly make the main room more cold.
Since the electricity/gas are just gone , with some water heaters, there would still be hot water inside the tank. You want to fill thermos with that and keep them in the small room. And whatever kitchenware you have that can be filled with hot water. You can also light up fire outside and heat up big rocks and keep them inside that room..the hot items will slowly lose heat over the day/night changing the room temperature.
You want to also close all air gaps, under the door, above it..all around the window frame. You can use newspapers, plastic..just lock it up . Blankets nailed over the plastic wraps are even better. Less air going in, more warmth.
All family needs to be together in that small room. If you all stay in different rooms, it will be harder to keep warm. Body heat does make a difference.
If you can make a tent, including camping tents inside the room , that would be very cool. It will help. Camping sleeping bag are designed for that too.
Covering walls in carpets can also help but you have to make sure you nailed them well or they will end up falling on the candles if you're using that.
You need to save up before hand, and buy a carbon monoxide and dioxide detector , smoke detector that run on batteries before you make any quick heaters using candles and clay like one of the pots tools I will link. You need to store up on batteries. Also it is not really the best to close all air gaps if you're using a fire source. In that case you want to leave the window slightly open.
The flower pot do work if done right. It will take a use or two. They will be more resistant to cracking if you keep them in water for 18 hours. They will absorb the water and harden up and work faster. Again you need to prepare way before the outage.
You should put the candles on heat resisting plate. You don't want to be putting the heat resisting plate on a carpet because it can melt it. You can use bricks for that or use a base like coffee cups upside down under the plate lifting it up, and even better remove the carpet.
The flower pots must be clay, they have to be or they will be issues including the material exploding

Homeland crisco candles last long. You can prepare before and try to to make those.

Over here we have something similar to the clay pot idea, called canan, it takes months of use for the clay to crack. We use clay for building houses because it is good to retain temperature whether what is inside is cooler or warmer.
