A tree of life

An ecosystem that supports many insects and birds. For many generation.

“A gentle tongue is a tree of life” Pr15.4a
Healing words foster life.

But destroyed….

The ecosystem dies. Birds no longer nest. New life has been snuffed out.

“but perverseness in it, breaks the spirit” Pr 15.4b

This is the work my local council. It has an Eco corner.

Is there a reason given for felling this tree? Was it diseased or dangerous on the side of the road?

@FreddieUK The excuse will be that it could fall on the road.

I’ve driven past it thirty four years now without panicking🫣

@peterlee If it's that old, and it does appear to be leaning over the road, perhaps they are right. A good storm when it's in full leaf could bring it down. The Council will be held responsible if it does and if they have had a report from a specialist that suggests that could happen, they will be held negligent.

@FreddieUK Well let’s hope they don’t touch these.

@peterlee The one on the left looks safe enough. Lorries and double decker buses also have to be taken into consideration, but often wise pruning is sufficient to give clearance.

@FreddieUK That tree could have been saved with topping, pruning and careful management. New shoots would have appeared giving hope.

@peterlee That is a detail only a conversation with the local advisers could help me decide on. In principle, I agree with you about not destroying nature, but I am also practical.
