It was really common in the little towns in northern Missouri where we lived. The little town parks would have whitewashed trees, larger trees and some whitewashed their fences as well. I did whitewash some blackjack trees here in Oklahoma when we lived in a rural and a chunk of bark let loose with the white wash and flipped up against my eye. Burnt like the devil and that was the end of me whitewashing anything. It’s like temporary paint at best anyway. The rains eventually wash and wear it off.

@cherokeepatti I'll shock a few locals by talking them into doing it for the trees and environment then let them demand that the city do the same
