I Love Big Old Trees

I remember while taking my mama grocery shopping one day she pointed at a huge old oak tree. She said her and her brothers and sisters used to play on and under that tree when they were little. Every thing around that we’re cotton fields where they would have to work every day, her daddy was a share cropper. I tried to imagine what all that tree had seen. Man, if only that tree could talk. For it had to be around two hundred years old. Now in place of those cotton fields are shopping plazas, fast food places, grocery stores and gas stations beside a six lane road. I remember stopping in the parking lot and looking around trying to imagine huge cotton fields with my mamas family all with big burlap sacks over their shoulder picking away. They eventually cut that oak tree down, claiming it was a hazard to anyone that was around it. I just thought to myself, mankind was the only hazard thing happening now. Peace
Old trees tell such fine stories. Do you know that old trees communicate and support their younger trees? I recall swings attached to large trees as a child and right up to adulthood. My so swung on the same one I did as a teen on my mom's farm. And oh how many trees I climbed on...Trees are a vital part of life. Thanks for posting.

That is too cool ! Almost magical, even. Wasn’t there a movie made about an elderly woman that could communicate with trees? Seems like the name of it was “ Tree whisperers.” It also seems like it was based upon a true story. Thanks for your story.
