I Love Oak Trees

I've always had an affinity for oak trees. When I was young about 12 or so I decided to take my wagon and a shovel to the woods nearby so that I could dig up a small oak transplanted into the yard of the house that I grew up in. My dad discovered my intentions and was on board with what I was going to do but cautioned me to dig down and get the entire tap root. Well I did my best and dog down as deep as I thought I should getting most of the taproot. I transported at home in my literal little red wagon dug a hole in our backyard and transplanted it. I gently nurse to the rest of the summer and fall giving it water as needed. It made it through the next year but unfortunately that winter it died. No I am a stubborn person of German dissent sell that did not deter me. I went back to a similar spot two years later being the age of about 13 or 14 and dug up another tree this time digging as far down as I possibly could to get the entire tap root system. I put it in a very similar spot in the backyard and again nurse to the next year. Within A year or two it really started to take off and it took hold, took root in grew rapidly. We stayed in that house until I was a freshman in college and my parents decided to sell to get into a nicer neighborhood and a bigger house. Leaving the yard of my childhood behind for that of a bigger yard with a full garden and lots of trees unfortunately no oak trees. My interests grew and changed but I never forgot my Oaktree of my old home just two blocks away. The tree continued to grow sprouting acorns in the fall and when I visited my parents I often saw that tree getting bigger and bigger. Unfortunately the house that I grew up in was re-sold and the people that bought it did not have an affinity for the tree as did I and eventually cut it down. I was saddened as I had put so much time and effort into getting that tree to flourish but then recognize that there was no longer mine but those of the people that owned the home at the time. Nevertheless I still was quite disappointed to learn that the tree that I took so much time and effort to establish, which was the only oak tree in the entire neighborhood, I had been cut down.

That was exactly the oak tree that I transplanted that to call but was ultimately cut down. I did not know it at the time but that's the type of oak that I randomly chose by chance.
