I Love Summer Nights
The end of this summer is getting weirder by the second! It was +90° here in California today, hot and muggy with a constant cloud cover. Even though the clouds were dense, they weren't dark in color....
Once evening hit, so did the most spectacular lightning storm! I was standing in my backyard as the storm crept closer. Changing from a low rumble that wafted in from far off in the distance, to an earth shattering roar that reverberated through every fiber of my being! It wasn't even raining yet when the sky lit up!
The storm started to die down so I went inside to clean up after dinner. I saw a flash every now and then, but for the most part, gave up on the excitement....
That is, till the rain decided to join the party in buckets!
Torrential down pour! I ran outside, my 12 year old daughter yelling from under the eaves for me to come inside, calling me crazy! I told her to come out and join me, stopped dancing around and looked up... The rain drops were so beautiful as they cascaded toward my face, that I stopped breathing....
As a myriad of photon strings danced right above my head, I felt the air get sucked out of my chest! And every cell in my body stand at full attention at the sound of the sky cracking! Now I know why people say something was breathtaking... It is not just a figure of speech! It literally takes your breath away!
