I Love Summertime

Something I look forward to every Summer are fireflies, those little sparks of magic dancing through the warm summer nights. And it's really disturbing to me that for the first time that I can remember there are almost none around, or very very few anyway. I don't know why. 😞

I wrote something similar to this on EP except we call them lightening bugs in the south. It saddens me that we are killing honey bees, lady bugs, and lightening bugs with our careless ways. There is a place not far from my home where there are special lightening bugs. They glow eerily in different colors. One of the requirements when you attend the sightings is that you not get off the clearly marked trail. Well tourists flock to see them and then trample them to death because they walk over where they are laying their eggs. They were saying in a recent article that the population has decreased by nearly 50% over the last decade. At this rate in 20 years there will be none at this place. :(

For me i don't use lawn pesticides and weed killers, nor do I spray for bugs. That stuff kills everything, and a green lawn is just not worth it.

Fungirlmmm there's no other way to put this: If it's beautiful and natural human beings will find a way to fuck it over.

We don't have any in Colorado. I have never seen any at all within the past 45 years. Those "little sparks of magic" must not like us here in the Midwest. 😒
