It’s awesome to be seen as a big shot at work…right? 😐

I did plan on enjoying the last couple of weeks I have before I walk through those doors again, but this morning I woke up to a “Can you help us?” text from my boss as they’re getting everything prepared for our opening weekend.

The daytime manager, who’s usually the main one who leads this part of the charge, experienced a devastating house fire last week that has left her and her family needing to rely on oxygen daily as they wait for the coughing to subside. It’s awful they still have that remnant from the fire as they lost everything, including two cats, but world’s better than the life flight to the largest big city to treat the husband for his injuries sustained while going back in to try to find those two precious souls. I already had great respect for her considering she’s been working there for 15 years and has one of the kindest dispositions I’ve ever witnessed from a person. But after tackling just a little of what she does, the woman is a true queen. Lawd love her for what she does in every stage that comes with this restaurant.

Today one small but very large portion of my day consisted of cleaning baseboards, so I fully expect every customer to compliment their cleanliness as they wait for the food I’m preparing to reach their table. They turned out much prettier than my knees.

Tomorrow will entail scrubbing and mopping floors, cleaning an industrial dishwasher by hand that my son’s operated all year and didn’t clean once, and filling countless salt and pepper shakers as I try to ignore everything stacked up in the kitchen just waiting for its home to be cleaned. It’s on the very long list. But one thing at a time. And hopefully I won’t require knee pads tomorrow 🤞🏻

But anyway, yesterday was an errand day. It turned out to be my last day of freedom, which is fine given how beautifully bright it was.
