Not sure how to take care of this Ivy

I just took the plant in the bath and laid down some newspaper and squeezed out the soil like crazy with pieces of newspaper. I didn't expect it to fall apart so easily but it all fell apart in the tub so I spent the last 30 minutes with this plant trying to gather the soil. I think it's the soil which is holding onto the water a little too god and it's very soaked. My aunt watered the plant with good intentions but Ivys don't like to be soaked all the time😶And now he's very moist. I did manage to dry out the roots a bit and the soil only feels slightly damp now. Hopefully the crunchy leaves will go away now...
I got him on sale because of his bad shape.
