Have you succeeded in keeping chipmunks outta your veggie plants?

Please share what helped if anything!

I have absolutely had it. Last year I bought cayenne and citrus stick on things and they helped, but the little b*stards would still get in some plants. This year I loaded them with cayenne and the little sh*ts are digging holes EVERY day in my plants. I’m so tired of it 😡 I thought maybe something kinda sharp might help scare them away, so I broke large shish kabob sticks and dug them into those plants. Hopefully that helps. I don’t wanna use chemicals near my plants 😩

The holes are hard to see on the pics, they were much deeper than they appear and these are only some.

The sticks..

We have chipmunks here, I have seen them around the campus. But never had a problem with them in anything I planted.

@cherokeepatti Do you have veggie plants? They’re the only plants of mine besides aloe that they attack.

@MellyMel22 I used to and didn’t have a problem. Squirrels will dig holes and plant things in them…pecans, peanuts in the shell, and breadsticks.

@cherokeepatti I have been doing plants for years and it only started here last year I believe. I don’t know where they’re coming from.

@MellyMel22 interesting. Maybe they bred somewhere else and expanded their territory. They make tunnels. In Nebraska we would walk around looking for chipmunk holes and then within a 20-25 foot radius walk around and look for the other hole (they have two in case they need to escape from a snake). We were filling up buckets of water and pouring in the hole and the chipmunk would run to the other hole and we’d have a jar over the end and catch them. We accidentally drowned one and didn’t do it any more after that.

@cherokeepatti Oh wow! Yeah, I’m not sure. Maybe they’re running scared from areas with cats? Though across the street has a cat out often and they see them often too 😳

@MellyMel22 look in your yard for round holes big or bigger than a quarter and see if you can find another hole around. That would be their tunnel.

Yeah, in front we have a couple, one through the concrete. @cherokeepatti

@MellyMel22 I bet if you poured some water in one of those holes the other one will have a chipmunk hopping out of it. Put a jar over it and see.

@cherokeepatti I forget where the other hole is, but the one I know the exact spot is a sideways hole. Also I stuffed it with mulch 🤭
