National parks feeling the Trump purge

Seasonal employees of 433 national parks and historic sites received emails last week saying their 2025 jobs had been rescinded.

Many parks nearly double their employees during busy seasons, and jobs affected are park rangers, cleaning crews, maintenance, and visitor center workers.

"The future of our programs and thousands of park staff remains uncertain,” said Theresa Pierno, president and CEO for the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), in a statement.

"Our parks already have thousands fewer staff than they did a decade ago, and these actions risk further straining an already overwhelmed Park Service and impacting millions of visitors and local communities,” Pierno said.

This sucks. But I expected it.

Parks will no longer be safe and people need to keep this in mind going forward, especially concerning wildlife, waterways, and homeless encampments

@seaglass I stopped going to public parks when drugs took over. Used needles were left on the equipment where kids played.

@Secretsmile I go to a particular national park every year and haven't noticed that problem thankfully. But if they get rid of the gate attendant and round the clock security, I won't be going back.
