The Villainous Squirrels

Villains
Two squirrels that jumped on a rush hour train in Surrey and then refused to get off, forcing operators to cancel the service. Staff tried to get the rogue rodents to disembark – first by luring them with snacks, then by forcing them with brooms – but to no avail. Great Western Railway confirmed that the service had been cancelled “after a couple of squirrels boarded the train at Gomshall without tickets, breaching railway byeclaws”.

'We attempted to remove them at Redhill, but one refused to leave and was returned to Reading to bring an end to this nutty tail.'

Is it really necessary to cancel a departure because of this? Perhaps they just need to reintroduce railway cats.

For Skimble won't let anything go wrong.
And when you creep into your cosy berth
And pull up the counterpane,
You ought to reflect that it's very nice
To know that you won't be bothered by mice—
You can leave all that to the Railway Cat,
The Cat of the Railway Train!
