Ootheca (not in the garden)
Not from a roach. Sad that I know by now what those ones look like and where they’re usually left. This one looked very different. Grey and white. Stuck to the windowsill by these gross little fibers.
In my horror over insects ever being in the house, I pulled it off and threw it out. (I can’t have another infestation here. I’ll just go live in my car if it’s going to be like that)
But then I checked online to see if I could find a similar-looking one.
Very likely mantids. Not like the large ones outside that I’ve seen before.
But why are you in my house?! 🥲
If it’s really them, I hope those babies survive wherever they end up now. I know their mothers choose where they think are safe locations for them to hatch. I’m gonna tell you right now, my room is not that place even if I like a species.
But I need to be less hasty. I could have moved that close to the garden, on the fence, instead of chucking it. I really should just go back to school and study entomology so I recognize things on sight and how to properly handle them if they need to be moved.
