How To Not Lose Things From a Pack or Bag
Just wanted to share this tip as it came in handy yesterday on a night hike.
This was told to me a long time ago by an old, stud backpacker. And I haven't lost anything since then.
If you're in any situation where you're pulling something out of a bag or pack this will work.
First, when you've taken things out, repacked and you're set to leave, when you get up to walk away take THREE steps, stop, turn around and check.
You can use four or five steps but it HAS to be the same every time to start. And it has to be consciously done EVERY time. Even if you're sure you haven't left anything behind.
What will happen if you're consistent, and it happens fast, is that when you get up to leave you will automatically stop, turn and check. It's like you're on a string and you won't have to think about it. It'll just happen.
I hike or backpack pretty much every day and haven't left anything behind in probably 20 years. Because stopping and checking happens without my thinking about it. It's a trip. And it works. 👍
